Webster University Director of Athletics, Scott Kilgallon, with the help of Webster President Dr. Elizabeth Stroble and Assistant Athletic Director Merry Graf, inducted the 2015 Hall of Fame class in a ceremony at Sunnen Lounge in the University Center on February 21.  Five Gorlok greats are the newest members of the Hall of Fame.  Jerry Amsler and Kevin Fann (men's soccer), Alex Raetzloff (baseball), Dana Vahey (soccer, softball, basketball), and Melissa Zwilling (volleyball) were voted to the class of 2015. 

In addition, Webster graduate Helen Manion Comer, class of 1951, was the recipient of the first Athletics Pioneer Award.  Comer was named Webster Athletic Director in 1952 and taught all physical education classes to freshmen from 1951-1957.  In addition, she coached all three Webster varsity sports: volleyball, basketball and softball, and ran the school's Athletic Association. 

Ralph Olliges, Faculty Chair and Associate Professor of Education, was presented with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Appreciation Award by current Webster SAAC members Jay Hargis and Stephanie Lass.

All inductees were in attendance excepting Vahey, who had videotaped an acceptance speech and was 'in person' via Skype from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, where she is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force.  The descriptions of the five inductees:

Jerry Amsler       A 1989 Webster graduate with a BS in Business and a 1998 graduate with a Master's in Business Administration, Amsler was a 'pioneer' athlete in establishing the young Gorlok men's soccer program.  Amsler was a four-year player at Vianney High School, when it was considered one of the top high school programs in the U.S., winning four state titles in the 1980s and attaining a #1 ranking in U.S. Today.  Amsler, a midfielder, came to Webster in just its third year of competition in 1986.  After going 4-22-1 in its first two seasons, Amsler helped lead Webster to a 14-9-1 finish in 1986, including a 3-2 win over Bradley University, an NCAA I opponent, in which he scored all three Webster goals.  Amsler had 49 points, on 19 goals and 11 assists, still the Webster all-time single season high total in points.  Amsler is currently the Managing Owner of Jamba Juice locations in Missouri and Kansas.  He is married to Janice Amsler, and has two children, Jerry Jr. and Victoria.

Kevin Fann        A 2009 Webster graduate with a BS in Business Administration and 2011 graduate with a Master's in Business Administration, Fann was the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Soccer Player of the year in both 2007 and 2008.  A forward, he was a SLIAC First Team All-Conference choice all four years as a Gorlok (2005-08) and was the Webster University Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2009.  Fann holds the Webster men's soccer career records for total points (146), goals (63), and game-winning goals (20), and holds the single season record for goals (20) as well.  Fann was a graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis where he played soccer and basketball for four years.  He is currently employed at the Boeing Company in St. Louis.

Alex Raetzloff   Raetzloff is a 2009 Webster graduate with a BA in History.  As an outfielder on the Webster baseball team, the Gorloks won three SLIAC Championships and made three NCAA III Tournament appearances.  The team compiled a 74-13 record in the SLIAC during that period (2006-09). Raetzloff was an ABCA Third Team All-American in 2008 and was All-Central Region in 2007 and 2008.  He was a SLIAC All-Conference First Team selection in 2007, as he batted .399, and in 2008 as he batted .409 and had a .773 slugging pct.  Raetzloff wound up with a career .352 batting average, a .562 slugging pct., and a .460 on-base pct.   A graduate of Hazelwood Central High School in St. Louis, he was a Post-Dispatch Second Team All-Metro selection in 2004.  Raetzloff was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer and is currently employed as a foster care case worker for Great Circle in St. Louis.
 
Dana Vahey      Vahey graduated cum laude from Webster in 2009 with a BA in Mathematics and in Secondary Education.  An all-around athlete, Vahey played four years for the Webster softball and soccer teams, and two years of basketball.  A catcher in softball, Vahey was a NFCA Scholar Athlete All-American in 2009 as the Gorloks advanced to the NCAA III Sweet Sixteen, earning All-Midwest Region honors as well.  Vahey was the 2009 SLIAC Softball Player of the Year, SLIAC Tournament MVP, and a SLIAC All-Conference First Team selection as well.  She was also named Webster's Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2009.  In her four seasons, the Webster softball team won three SLIAC Championships and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament twice.  Vahey still holds Webster career softball records for at-bats, runs scored, hits, total bases, and walks, and is second in home runs.  A midfielder in soccer, Vahey played on SLIAC Championship teams three years, advancing to the NCAA III Tournament three times.  Vahey played four sports at Hazelwood West in St. Louis, running cross country also, and was West's 2005 Scholar Athlete.  After teaching and coaching high school, Vahey chose a career in the U.S. Air Force.  She is currently in Emergency Management through Andrews AFB in Maryland but deployed overseas.  She's had a distinguished career, being named the Andrews AFB Airman of the Year in 2012 and an Airman Leader.  She was a USAF Basic Military Training Honor Graduate, Flight 036 Top PT Airman, and received the Thunderbolt Fitness Excellence Award.

Melissa Zwilling  A 2003 Webster graduate with a BA in Public Relations, Zwilling put her mark on the Webster volleyball records books in her four years in the program.  She completed her career at Webster first in kills, kills per set, attack attempts, and digs per set, and was second in points and digs.  Eleven years later, she is still second in kills, kills per set, and attack attempts, and third in points.  Zwilling was a SLIAC All-Conference First Team selection all four years in the program and was the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 1999.  Zwilling was the Webster University Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2002.  A graduate of Bishop DuBourg High School in St. Louis, Zwilling was on two State Championship teams and a State Championship runner-up with the Cavaliers.  She was inducted into the DuBourg Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.  Zwilling is currently employed as a Project Development Coordinator for U.S. Foods, Inc. in Chicago, IL.
 
The five were selected by a committee made up of faculty, coaches, and staff.  This year's class brings the total Hall of Fame membership to 24.  The Webster University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2010 to honor those who reflect the Department's mission of success in the classroom, the community, and the arena of competition. Former players, coaches, and other individuals who have made significant contributions to the program, are eligible for selection.
