SLIAC Players of the Week - March 14

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week are: Monica Behrle, Webster University; Michaela Brewer, Iowa Wesleyan University, Kam Bruner, from Spalding University, Samantha McIlwain, Iowa Wesleyan University; and Dillon Reel, from Greenville College.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
KAM BRUNER - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Kam Bruner is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the second consecutive week after continuing his hot start to the season. Bruner hit .583 over three games last week, driving in seven and helping the Golden Eagles pick up three wins. Bruner started the week with a 3-for-4 game against Transylvania, driving in three runs in an 11-10 win. He followed with a hit in a 3-0 win over DeSales and closed out the week by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in during a 4-3 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor. Bruner was 7-for-12 on the week with four runs scored and finished with a 1.167 slugging percentage.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
DILLON REEL - GREENVILLE COLLEGE

Reel, a senior from Mattoon, Ill., picks up SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors after keying his team to a 2-0 conference victory over MacMurray College. Reel went eight innings in the contest, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out six. Reel carried a no-hitter until two outs into the sixth inning. Reel is currently 1-2 on the season with eight strikeouts through 16 innings pitched.



SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
MICHAELA BREWER - IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY

Brewer, a freshman from Nevada, Mo., got off to a fast start to the 2016 season, picking up a hit in each of her team's first eight games. Brewer hit .423 over the week with two home runs and six runs batted in. She had three multi-hit games on the week with an impressive game against Shawnee State; going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. For the week Brewer was 11-for-26 at the plate, scoring eight runs and finishing with a .692 slugging percentage.

 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SAMANTHA McILWAIN - IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY

McIlwain, a sophomore from Boone, Iowa, made four appearances last week including two starts. She picked up wins against Shawnee STate and Penn State-Hazleton. On the week she went 2-1 with a 1.68 earned-run average and 24 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched. McIlwain picked up the win over Shawnee State going two innings while allowing three hits and striking out two. She threw 3.2 innings of relief work against Delaware Valley, striking out six and closed out her week with seven innings of two hit ball against Penn State-Hazleton; recording 12 strikeouts.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MONICA BEHRLE - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Behrle was dominant in her performances last week, racking up a perfect 8-0 record for the Gorloks. Behrle, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., picked up four wins at #1 singles and #2 doubles. She notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kutztown and followed with a 6-0, 6-5 win over Carroll. Behrle continued with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lebanon Valley in the top spot and closed out with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Roanoke. In addition Behrle teamed with Madison Watts to pick up four doubles wins on the week.

Other Notables:

  • Dathan Berning, Greenville College (Baseball) Berning went 6-for-13 over four games last week, including four runs batted in and three stolen bases.  
  • Jack Bensinger, Webster University (Baseball) Bensinger picked up the win over #25 ranked Linfield, going nine innings and allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts.
  • Drake Hardin, MacMurray College (Baseball) Hardin had three multi-hit games last week, finishing with a .412 batting average over a four game span.
  • Carol Weiler, Webster University (Softball) Weiler went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in during a loss to Lakeland.
