Spalding SAAC Partners to Donate to Home of the Innocents

This holiday season, Spalding University Athletics and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee has teamed up with Norton Sports Health to collect and donate sports equipment to Home of the Innocents.

Rebekah Hibbert, Coordinator of Sports Medicine at Norton commented, "Norton Sports Health is dedicated to helping the community in any way we can." Hibbert continued, "When I spoke with Home of the Innocents we came up with the idea of donating sports equipment and clothing, and are very grateful to have partners in the community like Spalding Athletics and SAAC." Hibbert finished, "The Spalding student-athletes and SAAC did an awesome job, far exceeding anything we had imagined. Hats off to the hard work Coach Sowder and SAAC put in to aid us with this initiative."

Home of the Innocents is a private, non-profit organization that provides services for children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. The Home also gives individualized care for medically fragile children with an expert team of doctors, nurses, and therapists. In-home and school based support services are also offered for children with autism and other behavioral issues. The goal for the Home is that the children are children first and then patients second. Their mission is "[Is to] provide the skills and opportunities by which vulnerable children, youth and their families may improve their lives." The Home has been running for 135 years and has helped more than 6,000 children and their families.

SAAC Vice Chair Shelby Kilgore stated, "As a four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, it has been great to work with our student-athletes and coaches to help give back, and really appreciate Norton Sports Health asking us to partner with them to help provide sporting goods for the Home of the Innocents." Kilgore finished, "I am so thankful to be a part of a university with a core value of compassion and giving back to the community."
