AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn softball team finally gets their 2016 season under way today, March 16, with a double header at Illinois-Springfield. The Beavers will be under the guidance of Kerry Crum, who comes to Blackburn this year after previously serving as head coach at Benedictine of Springfield for two years. The Beavers will have two more double headers this weekend, facing Trinity International on Saturday and Stephens on Sunday.
The Red Devil softball team is off to a fast start this season with a 5-1 record through the first three days of action in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Red Devils are hitting .412 as a team and averaging 8.8 runs per game. Kerrigan Dura has come out red hot, hitting .591 with nine runs batted in while Lexi Litwiller leads the team with 10 runs batted in.
The Fontbonne University Track and Field program will host a fundraiser at St. Louis Bread Co. today, March 16 from 4-8 p.m. The fundraiser will be held at the 6734 Clayton Road location in St. Louis, Mo. A portion of proceeds will go directly to the Fontbonne Track and Field program. Simply print out the flyer HERE and bring with you on your visit.
It has been a quiet start to the season for the Panther softball team. After opening the season with a double header back on February 19th the Panthers have played just four more games since then. However the Panthers get right back into things with 12 games over the next week and a half. They start things on Thursday with a home double header against Monmouth before heading to Clermont, Florida for the PFX Spring Games.

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team swept SLIAC honors last week as Michaela Brewer took home Hitter of the Week honors and Samantha McIlwain was named Pitcher of the Week. The duo helped the Tigers pick up three wins last week. Brewer hit .423 with two home runs and six runs batted in. McIlwain made four appearances, notching two wins, and striking out 24 batters through 16.2 innings pitched.

The MacMurray softball team finally returns to action this weekend after a three week hiatus. The Highlanders last played on Feb. 27, in the PC Dome Tournament in Aberdeen, S.D. The Highlanders return to the field this weekend with a home double headers against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday. They will also host Saint Mary of the Woods next Wednesday.
The Principia baseball team is currently in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for spring break. The Panthers arrived on Monday, picking up a win over Alfred State. They dropped both games of a double header to Washington College and are scheduled to face Albertus Magnus and Alfred State before their departure on Friday evening.

After dropping the first two games of their trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. the Spalding softball team responded with three straight wins. The Golden Eagles are currently 3-3 on the season and have ten more games on the road before making their home debut on March 31 against Indiana University-Southeast.

The Gorlok softball team opened their 2016 with eight straight games away from home as they made a trip to Clermont, Florida to play in The Spring Games. They are now set to begin a six game home stand this weekend as they play host to Rose-Hulman on Saturday. The Gorloks' Katelyn Garza has been tearing the cover off the ball, hitting .563 this season with six runs batted in.
Weather has played havoc for the Westminster softball team early on this season. Their scheduled double header against Coe on March 16 has been moved to Wednesday, March 23. The Blue Jays already had four games canceled last weekend. They are set to host Grinnell College this Saturday and Robert Morris-Springfield on Sunday.
