AROUND THE SLIAC
The Blackburn baseball team has picked up their play in the month of April, winning six of their last eight games and totaling seven of their 11 wins on the season in the month. The Beavers are most recently coming off a split double header against Iowa Wesleyan, winning game two by the score of 16-6. In fact the Beavers offense has taken off as of late, scoring double figures in five games this month. |
This is a big weekend for the Red Devil softball team as they head out to start a six game road swing. The Red Devils have a double header against Iowa Wesleyan on Thursday before facing Fontbonne for two games on Saturday. That double header on Saturday will pit the top two teams in the SLIAC standings against each other, as Eureka is currently in first with a 9-1 mark and Fontbonne is second at 8-2. |
Fontbonne University soccer will host a foot-golf tournament on May 14 at 3 p.m. at the Highlands Golf Course in Forest Park. The cost is $65 per player and the format is a four man best ball format. Players must bring their own soccer ball and tournament fee includes beer and soda during the round and appetizers after the event. For more information click HERE |
The Greenville men's tennis team will come into the SLIAC tournament this weekend as the top overall seed. The Panthers went undefeated in conference play this spring, finishing 4-0, and will be in search of the programs first ever tournament championship. The Panthers advanced to the championship match last year before falling to Principia. The SLIAC Tournament will be held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park on Friday and Saturday. |
The Iowa Wesleyan golf team placed third once again in the SLIAC Golf Tournament, finishing the three rounds with a score of 944. The Tigers were led by Michael Neff, who finished 9th overall with a total of 232. Patrick Zielinski shot a 234 to finish 13th while Tanne Travis shot a 237 and tied for 15th. Neff earned Second Team SLIAC All-Conference honors. The Tigers five golfers all finished in the top 25 of the tournament. |
The MacMurray baseball team will step out of conference play for a single game on Friday at Washington (Mo.). The Highlanders are coming off a split double header against non-conference foe Wabash last Sunday and are currently 18-15 overall. They return to SLIAC play on Saturday with a home double header against Westminster. The Highlanders currently sit in first place in the SLIAC East Division with a 11-5 conference record. |
The Principia softball team begins an eight game home stand this week with two games against Blackburn on Thursday. The Panthers will then host Spalding on Saturday before facing non-conference opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday. Their home stand concludes on Friday, April 29 against Fontbonne with a double header. |
The Spalding softball team has fallen on hard times, dropping three in a row and nine of their last ten. After picking up seven wins in the first month of the season the Golden Eagles have just one since then. They face out of conference opponent Transylvania on Friday before returning to SLIAC play and heading on the road to face Principia on Saturday and Westminster on Sunday. |
The Gorloks baseball team carries a SLIAC best five game winning streak into this weekend when they will host Principia in a double header on Friday. The Gorloks are currently 19-12 overall and in first place in the SLIAC West Division with a 12-4 conference record. Following their games against Principia the Gorloks will face local non-conference school Washington (Mo.) next Tuesday. |
In a showdown against two of the top hitting teams in the conference, the Blue Jays came up short against Greenville; dropping both games of a double header on Monday. The losses stopped a five game winning streak and drop their record to 14-15 overall and 7-5 in the SLIAC. The Blue Jays return to play on Sunday at home against Westminster. |
