Blue Jays Place Fourth in SLIAC Tournament

The Westminster women's tennis team placed fourth in the St. Loius Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament with Saturday's 6-3 loss to Greenville. 

Greenville held a 3-0 advantage over the Blue Jays after doubles play. The duo of senior Jessica Klutts and junior Grace Sanford fell 9-7 in the number three doubles spot while the freshman Payton Beeler and sophomore Ellen Woolsey duo in the one spot and the sophomore Laura Kelly and junior Laura Wiltshire duo in the two spot each lost 8-2.

The Blue Jays won their three points in singles play. Kelly defeated her opponent in the number three spot with scores of 7-5 and 6-3. Woolsey and Sanford each won in third set tiebreakers. Woolsey won sets one and three in the number four spot with the scores of 6-3 and 1-0 (6), and Sanford won in the six spot with scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 1-0 (7). 

Klutts, Beeler and Wiltshire each lost their singles matches.

The Blue Jays end their season with a 4-8 overall record.
