CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Blackburn College, 13-1, finishing off the three-game sweep for Spalding. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 24-10 on the season, 14-2 in conference play. The loss drops the Beavers to 7-25 on the year, 4-12 in conference play.
 
Cole Slamko (3-3) picks up the win, while Brady Wilkinson (2-3) is hit with the loss. Slamko threw seven innings of one run baseball en route to the complete-game victory.
 
Isaac Lineberry 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. Clay Kelly went 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run batted in, and three runs scored. Kam Bruner went 3-for-4 with a double, run batted in, and run scored. Jeff Thompson went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Blake Patterson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run.
 
The Golden Eagles scored early and often as they crossed the plate six times in the top of the first, including homers from Patterson and Lineberry. They added to their lead with a pair of runs in the third on a pair of run scoring doubles, before scoring five more in the fifth. That was just about all the Golden Eagles would need as they went on to the lopsided victory and finished off the sweep.
 
The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action Friday, April 28^th, as they welcome Principia College to Derby City Field in a rare Friday night matchup. First pitch is slated for 7 pm EST.
