Westminster Takes Care of Red Devils, 10-0

FULTON, Mo. – Westminster shut out the Eureka women's soccer team on the coldest evening of the pitch yet on Saturday, 10-0.

Despite a match-high 16 saves from EC goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton), the Blue Jays scored early and often in the first half of play. Alaina Alsbury got things started in the 5th minute of play, slotting the ball home from a tough angle 15 yards out. 

Not even a minute later, Natalie Shulte made it 2-0 as she dribbled by everyone on her way to the goal for an easy finish.

Shortly after that, in the 7th minute, Shulte scored again on a ball that was played across the box by Kate Ponder to make it 3-0. 

Westminster added to their goal total again in the 15th minute of play, when Ponder poked the ball away after it bounced around the box to make it 4-0.

Madison Ekren would get in on the scoring action in the 18th minute to extend the lead to five goals. Two minutes later, a Kate Ponder header resulted in her second goal of the night. Emily Siegel added one more for Westminster in the 33rd minute to make it 7-0 going into the halftime break.

The Red Devils defense cleaned it up in the second half, and after making noticeable adjustments, allowed only three goals in the second 45. The goals came in the 47th, 68th, and 83rd minutes from Maddie Lawton, Ekern, and Siegel respectively. 

The Red Devils (1-10) will take on SLIAC rival MacMurray on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
