Women's basketball secures appearance in SLIAC tournament

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team clinched an appearance in the SLIAC tournament for the sixth consecutive season with an 89-52 victory over Blackburn on Wednesday night.

The Panthers hold the longest-running SLIAC women's basketball tournament appearance streak, qualifying for the tournament since 2015. Only Webster has been in the last four SLIAC tournaments.

The Panthers outscored the Beavers in every quarter, holding a 27-14 advantage after the first quarter and a 47-25 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Greenville added seven points to their lead with a 17-10 frame, and the Panthers outdistanced Blackburn 25-17 in the fourth quarter.

Haven Robertson managed to finish as GU's top scorer with 20 points. She was nearly perfect in shooting, making 6-of-7 field goal attempts, including a 4-of-5 mark behind the three-point line, and 4-of-5 free throws.

Emily Reinneck added 14 points and tied Hannah Krukewitt for the team lead of six rebounds.

Madelyn Stephen registered 12 points, and Rachel Fettig posted 10 points.

Brittany Lopez contributed seven assists and three steals while Robertson also had three steals.

The Panthers (15-9, 12-5 SLIAC) travel to Eureka for their final regular season game on Saturday.
