Women's basketball picks up 77-63 win at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's basketball team returned to the court after a three-week hiatus and earned a 77-63 win over Spalding, the preseason favorite in the SLIAC coaches' poll.

Greenville trailed 22-17 after the first quarter but outscored Spalding 25-13 in the second period to establish a 42-35 lead at halftime.

Spalding managed to reduce its deficit to four points in the third quarter, but Greenville expanded the Panther lead to 58-48 at the end of the third stanza.

The Panthers managed to keep a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter.

Emily Reinneck finished as the game's top scorer with 18 points after a 7-of-17 shooting performance from the floor that saw her make 3-of-7 three-point attempts and 1-of-2 free throws. Reinneck also collected five of GU's nine steals.

Four other Panthers reached double figure scoring marks.

Hannah Krukewitt gave Greenville 14 points, and Megan Barrett had 13 points.

Madelyn Stephen posted 11 points, and Ashley Anderson chipped in 10 points.

Anderson also paced Greenville in rebounds with eight in the game, and Lauren Eagleson had a team-high five assists.

The Panthers (5-6, 2-2 SLIAC) travel to MacMurray for a game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
