Men's basketball tops third place Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team recorded an upset of third place Blackburn with a 104-98 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers received an outstanding shooting performance from Kaidyn Johnson who made 6-of-7 three pointers and 7-of-10 free throws for 25 points.

Greenville dominated the first half, establishing a 60-35 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Blackburn outscored GU 63-44, but it was not enough to offset Greenville's huge halftime advantage.

In addition to Kaidyn Johnson's 25 points, there were four other Panthers that recorded double-digit scoring efforts.

Jarred Johnson had 14 points to go along with a team-leading nine rebounds and four steals, and Kenneth Cooley added 13 points and four steals.

Julius Erby posted 12 points, and Romello Ball had 10 points.

GU was led in assists by Ball and Jarred Johnson with three each.

The Panthers (3-20, 2-10 SLIAC) will have to win their final two games to improve their conference position heading into the conference tournament. They face Eureka at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
