ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team fourth quarter comeback effort came up short against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy falling 75-65.
In the first quarter, the Griffins grabbed a 9-8 led at the 6:59 mark on Madison Nelson's 3-pointer. UHSP regained the advantage and stretched it out to 14-9 with 4:40 left.
However, the Griffins closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run with Ja'mise Bailey's layup giving Fontbonne the 19-14 lead. Fontbonne shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first led by Nelson with eight points.
In the second quarter, the Eutectics took over outscoring Fontbonne 23-8 taking a 37-27 advantage into the locker room.
In the third, the Eutectics stayed hot from the floor connecting on 50.0 percent of its attempts and went into the fourth ahead, 62-43.
The Griffins started chipping away at the deficit in the fourth getting it down to 68-59 with 2:24 remaining on Kya Harbour's 3-pointer.
Later, a bucket from Khamori Cornelius put Fontbonne within seven at 70-63. However, the Eutectics fended off Fontbonne the rest of the way securing the 10-point win.
