Blue Jays Sweep Blackburn With 9-0 Victory

The Westminster women's tennis team swept Blackburn College on Saturday with a 9-0 victory. The win grabs the Blue Jays their first conference victory and brings them to 2-5 on the season.

Junior Jessica Klutts and freshman Payton Beeler grabbed an 8-1 win in the 1st doubles spot, and freshman Ellen Woolsey and junior Grace Sanford swept Blackburn in the 3rd spot (8-0). Sophomore Laura Kelly and junior Laura Wiltshire headed into a tiebreaker with Blackburn in the 2nd spot, but pulled out the 9-8 (5) win.

In singles play, Woolsey and junior Jamie Striler swept their opponents with 6-0 scores. In the one and two spots, Klutts and Beeler won their sets with scores of 6-1. Kelly won in the 3rd spot, 6-0, 6-4, and Wiltshire won in the 5th spot, 6-0, 6-2.

The Blue Jays turn around and host Fontbonne University on Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m.
