Women's basketball rallies but comes up short against Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team dropped their second game of the season to Fontbonne on Saturday afternoon at H.J. Long Gymnasium. The Griffins came out on top 78-70.

The Panthers trailed 22-17 after the first quarter and endured a 16-6 deficit in the second quarter to fall behind 38-23 at halftime.

Greenville made it a game in the third quarter, outscoring Fontbonne 27-16, and they were down by just four points 54-50 after three.

Griffins distanced themselves from GU with a 24-20 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Emily Reinneck led Greenville in scoring with 18 points, and Haven Robertson produced 16 points.

The Panthers managed to outrebound Fontbonne 39-28, and Ashley Anderson was GU's leader with eight caroms.

Brittany Lopez was active on defense with five steals.

The Panthers (11-8, 8-4 SLIAC) host Spalding on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
