Fulton, Mo. – An early second half goal by Isabel Peng was not enough for the Westminster women's soccer team to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan. The Blue Jays were defeated by a score of 2-1 and their record now stands at 0-5-1.
The Prairie Wolves scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute to go up 1-0. The Blue Jays responded with three shots over the next 16 minutes of play but only managed to get one of them on goal.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored their second goal in the 27th minute after blocking a Westminster shot and moving the ball down the field into the attacking zone for a shot attempt that found the back of the net.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the opening minutes of the second half when senior Isabel Peng (Columbia, Mo. / Battle) kicked a pass from Kate Ponder (Ashland, Mo. / Southern Boone) past the Nebraska Wesleyan keeper to cut the lead to 2-1. Peng's goal was her first of the season.
Westminster continued to put pressure on the Prairie Wolves in the second half, drawing five corner kicks and recording four shots in the half. However, the Nebraska Wesleyan defense held on to win the game 2-1. Natalie Schulte (Linn Creek, Mo. / Camdenton) led the Blue Jays with three shots.
Sarah Cradick (Maryland Heights, Mo. / Pattonville) played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.
The Blue Jays play next on Sept. 21 at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill.
