Women's Basketball Piles Up The Points, Assists In Win Over Beavers
CARLINVILLE, Ill.—After putting up 106 points on Blackburn back on January 18th, the Fontbonne University women’s basketball team surpassed 100 points for the second time on the Beavers notching 102 in the 46-point win. Fontbonne goes to 12-10 overall and 7-4 in the SLIAC. Blackburn falls to 1-19 overall and 0-11 in the SLIAC.
CARLINVILLE, Ill.—After putting up 106 points on Blackburn back on January 18th, the Fontbonne University women's basketball team surpassed 100 points for the second time on the Beavers notching 102 in the 46-point win. Fontbonne goes to 12-10 overall and 7-4 in the SLIAC. Blackburn falls to 1-19 overall and 0-11 in the SLIAC.
Fontbonne had six players reach double-figures with Brianna Beamer having a career-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting off the bench. Madison Nelson also finished with 15 points, to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
Haley Buscher scored a season-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Kya Harbour and Rylee Pickett each hit a season-high with 12 points and combined for seven three-pointers. Ja'mise Bailey went 5-of-9 from the floor for 11 points, while adding five assists and five steals.
The Griffins started out 3-of-4 from the floor putting the Beavers in an 8-0 hole at the 7:14 mark on Harbour's 3-pointer.
Blackburn kept hanging around but the Griffins got a bucket from Buscher putting them ahead 16-11 after one.
In the second, the Griffins went on a 7-0 run in the first minute and a half as Beamer's layup extended its lead out to 23-11.
Blackburn trailed 25-16 at the 6:44 mark, however, the Griffins closed out the quarter outscoring the Beavers 23-5 to take a commanding 48-21 lead.
Fontbonne dominated the second quarter going 13-of-20 (65.0 percent) from the field and hitting five three-pointers.
It was all Fontbonne in the second half outscoring Blackburn 54-35 en route to the 46-point win.
Fontbonne tied the single-game record with 41 field goals made, which was originally set back in 2019 against St. Mary-of-the-Woods. The Griffins also shot a season-high 56.9 percent from the floor.
They stayed hot from beyond-the-arc hitting 16 three-pointers making it four straight games and six of its last seven. with at least 10 three-pointers. The Griffins also set new season-high marks in assists with 29.
