Westminster Women's Basketball Falls to Millikin

FULTON, Mo. – The Westminster women's basketball team was defeated by Millikin by a score of 68-52 on Saturday. The Blue Jays fall to 1-1 on the season.

Millikin scored the first points of the game on a layup two minutes into the quarter. Kallee Dowler answered for Westminster with a three-pointer to make the score 3-2 before the Big Blue made a three of their own to go up 5-3. The teams then traded points and Millikin hit a buzzer beat to close out the quarter with a 10-9 lead.

Reese Arnold opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to put the Blue Jays back on top 12-10. Millikin tied the game with a layup shortly after. The Big Blue went ahead on a three-pointer before Abbie Reece tied the game again with a three-pointer of her own. The teams then traded layups before Westminster went on a 8-2 run to go up 25-19. However, Millikin ended the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 29-25 lead into halftime.

Westminster cut the lead to two points when Alexandria Dyson scored off an offensive rebound but that Blue Jays could not retake the lead. Millikin outscored Westminster 17-12 in the third quarter to take a 46-37 lead into the final quarter. The Big Blue continued to control the game and scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to win 68-52.

Jackie Arnold led Westminster with 16 points followed by Reese Arnold with nine and Dowler with eight. Mikalyn Callahan recorded 12 rebounds for the Blue Jays.

Next up the Blue Jays will travel to Missouri S&T on Wednesday for an exhibition game.
