Westminster Men's Basketball Falls to Simpson

STORM LAKE, Iowa. – The Westminster men's basketball team was defeated by Simpson 99-65 on Saturday afternoon. Westminster is now 0-3 on the season.

Westminster got an early 9-8 lead on two three-pointer from Jaxon Althaus and another from Ethan Thompson. The Blue Jays extend their lead to 11-8 when Thompson made a pair of free throws. The Storm then went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 18-11 before Steph Campbell cut the lead to 18-14 with a three. After the three each team scored on a layup to bring the score to 20-16 with just over 11 minutes left in the half.

From that point the Storm outscored the Blue Jays 40-12 to close out the first half with a 60-28 lead. In the second half Westminster cut lead to 60-36 with an 8-0 run off of six points from Althaus and a jumper by Harrison. However, Simpson outscored Westminster 39-37 in the second half to win the game 99-65.

Althaus scored 11 points in the second half and led the Blue Jays with 19 points. He also led all players in steals with five. Campbell and Harrison also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points. Thompson added nine points and led Westminster with six rebounds.

Up next the Blue Jays will travel to Division II McKendree on Tuesday night for an exhibition game.
