Women's soccer breezes past Illinois College 5-0

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The women's soccer team collected a 5-0 shutout win over Illinois College on Wednesday in their final non-conference match of the season.

Greenville scored a goal in the first half and four goals in the second half to roll to the easy victory.

Molly McDonnell recorded the first goal of the match for GU in the 23rd minute. Jade Taylor and Breanna Thomas added the assists.

In the second half, Kate Arthur scored on a penalty shot in the 53rd minute, and Thomas followed with a goal assisted by Natty Hepburn-Beaty in the 70th minute.

Hepburn-Beatty added a goal assisted by Arthur and Megan Taylor in the 74th minute, and M. Taylor wrapped up Greenville's scoring in the 77th minute.

The Panthers attacked Illinois College's defense for much of the match as Greenville piled up 39 shots and 20 shot attempts on goal.

Jen De Leon De Leon gave Greenville the most shots in the match with six.

Goalkeeper Reaghan Lesh was relatively untested with just one save in the shutout.

The Panthers (3-5-1) host Westminster next Saturday in the opening match of SLIAC play. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Francis Field.
