Women's volleyball sweeps past Fontbonne in gaining 11th SLIAC regular season title

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team delighted a large Friday night Homecoming crowd with a brisk three set win over Fontbonne on a night when they recognized seniors Alexis Chambers, Emily Stahl, Dahlia Stucky, Mia Pollesch, Lauren Spivey, Gretchen Bond, and Payten Morris.

With fireworks lighting up the night skies just north of H.J. Long Gymnasium, the Panthers lit up the Griffins inside the gymnasium with set scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-13 as they rolled to their 11th SLIAC regular season championship in the last 12 seasons.

Anna Finch had a fantastic final regular season home match with 10 kills in 18 attacks without any errors, finishing at a .556 hitting clip.

Jasmin Smith and Emily Stahl finished with nine kills each.

Kaitlin Murray ended with Greenville's high in set assists with 20 in the match.

Chasity Hill led GU's defense with 18 digs, and Anna Finch and Lauren Spivey each posted six block assists.

The Panthers improved their hitting percentage in each set, rising from .200 in set one to .265 in the second set, and capping the match with a .300 rate in the final set to finish with a rate of .263 over the entire match.

The Panthers (21-6, 11-0 SLIAC) travel to Spalding for a match on Tuesday night as they attempt to complete the first undefeated SLIAC season since Webster ran the table in 2009.  Greenville will host the SLIAC tournament on Saturday, November 6, at H.J. Long Gymnasium.
