WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - The women's basketball season concluded with a 78-63 loss to Webster in the SLIAC tournament semifinals on Friday night.
Greenville opened the game by scoring the first six points of the contest and eventually held an 11-4 lead in the first period. Webster took their first lead of the game on a three-pointer as time expired in the first quarter and held a 19-18 lead after one stanza.
The Panthers kept the game close and tied the game at 27-all on a three-pointer by Lauren Eagleson with 2:31 to go in the half. Webster scored the last six points of the quarter to move ahead 33-27 at halftime.
Greenville stayed in the game and cut the deficit to 41-40 midway through the third quarter, but Webster extended the lead to 56-46 by the conclusion of the period.
In the fourth quarter, Greenville came back and trailed by four after going on an 8-2 run in first three and a half minutes of the stanza to make the score 58-54. The Panthers had an opportunity to cut the lead to a single possession, but they committed a turnover and Webster was able to score the next four points. Greenville wasn't able to get any closer than six points for the remainder of the game.
Madelyn Stephen ended as Greenville's top scorer with 19 points on 8-of-12 field goals, 1-of-1 three-pointer, and 2-of-2 free throws.
Emily Reinneck posted a 12 point outing, and Hannah Krukewitt finished with 11 points.
Krukewitt and Stephen were top rebounders with six, and Brittany Lopez has seven assists.
Reinneck and Lauren Eagleson each totaled three steals.
Prior to the game, Greenville had three players honored on the All-Conference team.
Reinneck, a freshman, was the SLIAC newcomer of the year and member of the All-Conference second team. Reinneck tied Stephen as the leading scorer on the team with 12.3 points per game. Reinneck was fourth with 2.4 assists per game and second with 1.6 steals per game.
Krukewitt, a senior, received accolades on the All-Defensive team. She was first on the team with 4.8 defensive rebounds per game and third with 1.2 steals per game
Katelyn Wolfram, a senior, received Greenville's spot on the All-Sportsmanship team.
The Panthers wrapped up their campaign with a record of 16-10.
