Women's volleyball opens season with split

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The women's volleyball team opened their varsity season on Friday, and the Panthers were winners in three sets against Manchester in their first match before being handed a three set setback against Mt. St. Joseph.

Against Manchester, Greenville gathered a 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 win.

The Panthers were led in the match against Manchester by Anna Finch who recorded 12 and a half points in the contest. Finch posted nine kills on 14 attacks and collected seven block assists.

Jasmine Smith provided 11 points for Greenville on 10 kills and two block assists, while Emily Stahl reached double figures in points with nine kills and two block assists.

Overall, Greenville was a force defensively at the net with 18 block assists. In the back row, Chasity Hill led Greenville with 10 digs.

In the nightcap, Greenville lost a three set match to Mt. St. Joseph 25-20, 25-23, 25-16.

Payten Morris was the top kill producer for GU in the match with eight. She also added a block assist.

Finch, Smith, and Stahl all had six kills, and Jordan Lempa provided a team-high 21 assists.

Lauren Spivey was Greenville's leader in the match with four block assists. Hill tallied 21 digs, and Smith posted 19 digs.

The Panthers (1-1) will compete against Wilmington (Ohio) and Anderson (IN).
