Women's basketball topples Westminster

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team returned to the win column with a convincing 81-62 win over Westminster on Saturday.  Laura Goodnight produced a team-high 22 points in the win.

Greenville took control early, taking a 26-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The Lady Panthers held a 37-28 advantage at halftime as Westminster closed the deficit to single digits with a three-pointer from mid-court as the half expired.

The Lady Panthers outscored Westminster 21-14 in the third quarter and closed the game with a 23-20 advantage in the fourth stanza.

Lady Panther Wesley Woodard posted 11 points in the win to join Goodnight with double digit scoring.

Kelly Lenz controlled the boards with 12 rebounds, and Goodnight added four steals.

Claire Schmitt passed out five assists and gathered three steals.

The game with Westminster was the first since the Lady Panthers defeated the Blue Jays in the SLIAC tournament championship last season.

Greenville (4-2, 1-1 SLIAC) travels to MacMurray on Tuesday night for a SLIAC game.
