Fontbonne Softball Sweeps Past Golden Tornadoes And Spartans
AUBURNDALE, Fla.—It was a good start to the Florida trip for the Fontbonne University softball team as they picked up a 5-1 win over Geneva in game one and a 7-6 win over Aurora in game two.

Game One
Fontbonne 5, Geneva 1
It remained a scoreless game until the third when Nevaeh Redmond led off with a walk. Later, a walk to Kassidy Chrisco and a single up the middle by Patience Vandermierden loaded up the bases for Grace Paez.
The St. Louis, Mo., native, hit a single to right plating Redmond and Chrisco for the 2-0 lead. Ellie Bartlett followed with a single to right scoring Vandermierden to give Fontbonne a 3-0 advantage.
In the fourth, the Griffins had two on and two out, but Paez came through with another single to right scoring Redmond and Lilly Jones pushing the lead out to 5-0.
The Golden Tornadoes got a run in the bottom half of the inning, but that'd be all they get against starter Abby Alonzo who went the distance tossing a gem in the four-run win.

Game Two
Fontbonne 7, Aurora 6
After the top of the second, the Spartans were on top 5-0 over Fontbonne. However, the Griffins got on the board in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Bartlett that brought home Paez, who led off with a single.
Fontbonne made it 5-2 in the third on an RBI sacrifice-fly from Paez. In the fifth, the Spartans made it 6-2, but in the bottom of the inning the Griffins scored three runs on four hits.
A single by Jones, an error, and a single from Vandermierden had the bases loaded for Fontbonne. After a fielder's choice, the Griffins made it a 6-3 game with Ashley Carrow hitting a single to right allowing Makenzie Howell to score.
Then, pinch-hitter Alaina Hotop singled to right plating Vandermierden and Paez making it a 6-5 contest.
In the sixth, Howell reached base on a one out single and scored on Vandermierden's double to right. Paez followed with a single to left scoring Vandermierden to give Fontbonne a 7-6 lead.
Hailey Kutz closed the door on the Spartans in the seventh for the one-run win.

The Griffins will now enjoy a couple days off before returning to action on Friday against Dominican at 1 p.m., and Emmanuel (Mass.) at 3:30 p.m.
