Baseball runs out of steam in 12-2 loss against Mass.-Dartmouth

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The baseball team concluded their spring break trip on Saturday with a 12-2 loss to Massachusetts-Dartmouth in eight innings.

Greenville's Adam Lamb was the starting pitcher for Greenville and held UMD to two runs in five innings.

UMD scored single runs in the first and second innings, and Greenville was held scoreless until the top of the sixth when a Klaiton Wolff sacrifice fly made the score 2-1.

Sam Alender relieved Lamb in the sixth and seventh innings, but Dartmouth reached Alender for a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Panthers rallied in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2.  Jaime Quesada reached first base on an error by the shortstop and went to second on a passed ball.  He advanced to third on a groundout by Clarence Falls and scored when Austin Lawrence singled to the pitcher.  Lawrence stole second but was stranded as two strikeouts ended the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Chad Plath and Jacob Cutter permitted nine runs to end the game.  The game concluded on a three-run home run by UMD.

Greenville recorded four hits in the game.  Lawrence went 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Over the course of the week, GU won four of their seven games.

The Panthers (8-7) return to action in their first SLIAC games of the season with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Iowa Wesleyan.
