Women's basketball opens SLIAC schedule with win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team recovered from a first quarter deficit and took control of the game during the second and third quarters to defeat Westminster 81-58 on Wednesday night in their SLIAC opener.  Prior to the game, Greenville University honored Coach Roy Mulholland for setting the all-time record in wins recorded by a head women's basketball coach at Greenville.

Clarissa Duebel came off the bench to provide Greenville with a double-double, ending with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Madelyn Stephen gave Greenville a 14 point outing and a team-high three blocked shots.

Hannah Krukewitt pulled down a team-leading 13 rebounds.

The Panthers fell behind 15-10 after the first quarter and outscored Westminster 28-12 in the second quarter to hold a 38-27 lead at halftime. Duebel had seven points for Greenville in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Greenville pushed their lead to 62-41 with eight points from Duebel, and a 19-17 fourth quarter in favor of GU closed the game.

The Panthers led by as many as 26, reaching that mark with 39 seconds to play.

The Panthers (3-3, 1-0 SLIAC) travel to WashU on Friday and Saturday to play in the McWilliams Classic. The Panthers open with WashU at 7 p.m. on Friday.
