Women's basketball suffers tough first quarter, falls 80-60 to Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team fell behind 28-6 after the first quarter and that was enough to derail them for the remainder of the game as Greenville suffered a 80-60 setback to Webster on Monday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium.

Greenville scored four of its six first quarter points on free throws and had 11 turnovers in the opening frame. The Panthers eventually trailed 51-26 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Panthers fell behind 62-31, but they went on a 17-2 run over the final five minutes of the period to take a 31 point deficit and close it to 16 at 64-48.

The Gorloks extended the lead back to 20 with a 16-12 fourth quarter.

Emily Reinneck finished the game as Greenville's top scorer with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, including a 2-of-5 mark behind the three point arc. Reinneck also made 2-of-3 free throws.

Megan Barrett reached the double-figure scoring level with 10 points, and Hannah Krukewitt was GU's top rebounder with eight in the game.

The Panthers (4-5, 1-1 SLIAC) travel to Fontbonne for their final contest of 2019 on Saturday in a game beginning at 1 p.m.
