Westminster Gets Clean Sheet over EC Men's Soccer, 6-0

FULTON, Mo. – The Eureka men's soccer team took the pitch for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battle at Westminster on a windy Saturday evening, and the home team prevailed 6-0.

The Blue Jays were able to get themselves on the board first when Patrick Wisnewski drew a penalty in the 12th minute of action, which was then converted by Justin Gerdimin to make it 1-0.

Only three minutes later, the Blue Jays made it 2-0. This time, Mathew Shultzy corralled his own rebounded shot and made no mistake on the second attempt, putting it past keeper Moises Aldana (Spring Valle, Ill./Hall).

After taking a barrage of shots early the Red Devils found some rhythm offensively and were able to create some chances later in the second half, but they still found themselves down 2-0 at the break. 

Westminster struck first in the second half, when Mathew Schulte crossed in a ball to the head of Jordan Kahrhoff, who redirected it into the back of the net from about 6 yards out to extend the lead to three goals.

The Blue Jays drew their second penalty of the night in the 59th minute, and Gerdimin converted his second goal of the match off the the rebound of his penalty kick, which was was initially saved by Aldana. 

Andrew Sprengel and Samuel Brown added goals in the 64th and 77th minute, respectively, to round out the scoring.

Senior Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) led the way for the EC offense, mustering a team-best three shots. 

On Wednesday, the Red Devils will seek their first conference win of the season as they host MacMurray at McKinzie Field at 3 p.m.
