Women's soccer enjoys offensive outburst in 8-0 win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Meredith Harrison, Maddie Thomas and Bailey Sipfle scored two goals apiece and the defense didn't allow a shot as the Simpson women's soccer team cruised to a 9-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday.

The Storm (3-8) outshot Iowa Wesleyan 44-0 in snapping a six-game skid. The nine goals scored are the most by a Simpson team against a full squad since scoring 12 against Clarke in 2004. Simpson beat AIB 13-0 in 2012, but the Eagles fielded a team of fewer than 11 players.

Kate Morford scored one goal and assisted on another and Mackenzie Stump had two assists in the rout.

Harrison started the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute. Taylor Vaudt made it 2-0 with her goal in the 10th minute before Morford got on the board. Thomas scored back-to-back goals and Laura Alt made it 6-0 just over a minute before halftime.

Simpson led 6-0 at the break and tacked on three more scores in the second half. Harrison came up with her second goal in the 53rd minute and Sipflie added the final two tallies.

Caitlin O'Neill made 17 saves in goal for the Tigers (0-8-1), who didn't attempt a shot all afternoon.
