Women's Basketball Win Streak Reaches Five After Flying Past Golden Eagles

Fontbonne had four players in double-figures led by Mallory Ronshausen with a season-high 24 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including going 5-of-9 from downtown.
Madison Nelson finished with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Kourtney White notched her fifth double-double on the year with 15 points and 12 rebounds. She's now up to 987 career points needing just 13 more to reach 1,000.
In the first quarter, the Griffins jumped out to an 11-6 lead on Madison Nelson's jumper at the 5:11 mark. Spalding answered with a 5-0 run, but the Griffins came right back with Ronshausen hitting a layup and a 3-pointer giving Fontbonne the 16-11 lead.
Spalding added a late three prior to the end of the quarter, but Fontbonne still led 16-14 after one. The Griffins shot 38.9 percent from the floor in the first with Ronshausen already having eight points and three steals.
In the second quarter, the Griffins opened the first three minutes and eight seconds outscoring the Golden Eagles 13-5 to take a 29-19 advantage on Nelson's 3-pointer.
Fontbonne kept its foot on the gas offensively, while on the defensive side of the ball they held Spalding to a mere 23.1 field goal percentage and forced 10 turnovers allowing them to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
In the third, the Golden Eagles bounced back trimming the Griffins lead down to 50-45 with 3:50 remaining on Ma'Kaylia Lute's 3-pointer.
Fontbonne went on an 8-1 run over the next minute stretching its lead back out to double-digits (58-46) on Rylee Pickett's 3-pointer.
The Golden Eagles trailed 60-53 with under a minute left, but Brianna Beamer collecting the final three points gave Fontbonne a 63-53 lead heading into the fourth.
Spalding fared better offensively in the third shooting 47.4 percent. Fontbonne, though was right there with them shooting 47.1 percent from the floor.
In the fourth, the Golden Eagles were down 68-59 with 6:31 remaining. Over the next three minutes, the Griffins put the game away outscoring them 13-1 giving them a commanding 81-60 lead. It was all Fontbonne the rest of the way securing the 20-point win.
Fontbonne shot 44.6 percent from the floor and didn't slow down from beyond-the-arc hitting 12 three-pointers. It is now the seventh time in the last 10 games the Griffins have hit at least 10 three-pointers.
Defensively, the Griffins came away with 25 turnovers and turned it into 27 points. Fontbonne held a 42-30 scoring advantage in the paint.
