Women's basketball saddled with first SLIAC loss

FULTON, Mo. - The women's basketball team suffered their first SLIAC loss in their game at Westminster on Wednesday, falling 69-66 to the Blue Jays.

The Panthers slipped behind 20-9 after the first quarter, but they tightened the score to 31-27 at halftime.

Greenville drew even closer by the end of the third quarter with a 48-47 deficit.

The Blue Jays outscored GU by two points in the final quarter.

The shooting of the Panthers plagued them all night. Greenville only shot 35.4 percent from the floor and 20 percent from three-point territory. Greenville only turned the ball over 11 times.

Emily Reinneck led Greenville's scoring attack with 18 points as one of four starters reaching double figures.

Ally Cantrill added 12 points, and Abigail Reinneck and Savana Powell-Goodman each had 10.

The Reinneck sisters each had a team-high six rebounds, and Cantrill led GU with four assists.

Carolina Hoffman's defensive prowess allowed her to collect four steals as the Blue Jays committed 24 turnovers.

The Panthers (11-5, 4-1 SLIAC) travel to Blackburn for a game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
