Men’s basketball team slips past Eureka, 75-71, in consolation game of Wash U/Lopata Classic
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Olivet College men’s basketball team defeated Eureka (Ill.) College, 75-71, in the consolation game of the 38th Annual Lopata Classic, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis this evening at the Wash U Field House. Senior Derrick Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team after breaking the Lopata Classic record for three-pointers made with 12.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Eureka (Ill.) College, 75-71, in the consolation game of the 38th Annual Lopata Classic, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis this evening at the Wash U Field House. Senior Derrick Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team after breaking the Lopata Classic record for three-pointers made with 12.

- Back-to-back three-pointers by Johnson put the Comets ahead 6-0 in the first two minutes of the game. Olivet led by six points two more times. After the last time at 17-11, the Red Devils went on a 10-4 run to level the score. The teams exchanged baskets to create one more tied score at 23-23. The Comets scored 10 straight points to take their first double digit lead of the game, 33-23, at the 3:29 mark. A 9-0 Eureka run to end the half made the score 33-32 at the intermission.
- Olivet put 10 of the first 12 points on the scoreboard to start the second half. The Red Devils came back to make it a one-point game, 47-46, with 12:08 remaining. A three-point play by senior Noah Wiswary, followed by a three-pointer by sophomore Lorris Upshaw helped Olivet go ahead 53-46. The Comets kept at least a five-point lead until the final seconds of the game.
- Johnson scored 18 points to lead Olivet. He made 6-of-12 baskets, including 5-of-9 from behind the arc.
- Upshaw netted 12 points.
- Senior Ryan Robinette had 12 points.
- Freshman Haidyn Garrison nearly had a double-double with nine points to go along with his team-best 10 rebounds.
- Senior Tevin Ali also almost recorded a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
- Cody Baer topped all players with 19 points and 22 rebounds.
- Charlie McKinty and Noah Persich scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
- Olivet is off until next Saturday, December 10, when it travels to play University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
