Westminster's Tyler Branneky Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Westminster's Tyler Branneky Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2016 Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), was released on May 5, 2016, and Westminster's senior Tyler Branneky was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team.

Tyler Branneky

Branneky, the third baseman for the Westminster Blue Jays, holds a 3.54 cumulative GPA as a business and political science major.

Branneky is the career record holder of seven batting records and has his name in the top three of three others. He also holds the RBI season record for 2016.

This season, Branneky is batting .303 with 23 extra base hits including 10 home runs. He has 46 RBI on the season, breaking his 2015 season record. He has started in all 35 games and has posted 37 hits with 28 runs scored. Defensively, Branneky holds a .920 fielding percentage with 69 assists and 34 putouts.

Branneky is the sixth student-athlete in Westminster baseball program history to be named to the CoSIDA All-District Team. Alex Shelton is the only student-athlete in program history to be named to the list twice during his career at Westminster. Shelton and Mark Gifford are the two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in program history. Gifford earned the award in 2001, and Shelton was named to the All-America team in 2005 and 2006.

Each year, CoSIDA elects Academic All-District members across NCAA Division I, II, III, and "College Division." The College Division is comprised of NAIA, two-year, and Canadian student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA members—usually an institution's Sports Information Director— and must carry at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Nominated student-athletes must also be of sophomore athletic eligibility and be significant contributors to the success of their team.

Those selected to the Academic All-District will be eligible for the All-American team to be selected later in the season. Since 2011, Capital One has sponsored both the All-District and All-American awards.
