Whitlock Named SLIAC Player of the Year, Principia's Davidson Newcomer

For the second consecutive year the SLIAC Player of the Year resides in Jacksonville, Illinois. MacMurray College's Clayton Whitlock is the 2015 SLIAC Player of the Year, joining former teammate Brady Slagle as winners of the conference's top award. Whitlock, a senior from Springfield, Ill., led the conference in scoring this season at 16.9 points per game, including averaging a conference best 18.1 points during conference play. Whitlock was nearly unstoppable under the basket, shooting a conference high 66.9 percent from the field. In addition he averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, ranking third in the league in offensive rebounds.

The 2015 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year is Principia College's Parker Davidson. Davidson, a freshman from Amarillo, Texas, led the Panthers in scoring (15.2) and rebounding (9.1) per game. He ranked in the top ten in the conference in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots. Davidson becomes the first Panther to earn the conference Newcomer of the Year award in program history.

The conference's Coach of the Year features co-winners this year; MacMurray College's Todd Creal and Iowa Wesleyan College's Alex Huisman. Creal, in his sixth year at MacMurray, guided the Highlanders to a share of the SLIAC regular season title for the program's first time since the 2006-07 season. This marks the second time in his career he has been named the SLIAC Coach of the Year (2009-10). Huisman, is in his first year at the helm for the Tigers, and led them to a 12-11 overall record, doubling their wins from last year, and an 8-9 mark in the SLIAC, a five game improvement.

For the second consecutive season Westminster College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship.
