Webster Golf Earns GCAA 2013 Team Academic Award

The Webster University men's golf team earned the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) 2013 Team Academic Award.  This is the second straight year the Gorloks have earned the award, sponsored by Farmers Insurance Group.

Webster was one of only 25 NCAA III schools to receive the award and the lone school from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to be recognized.  The Gorloks had a 3.30 cumulative grade point average for the 2012-13 academic year.

To qualify for the award, a team must have maintained a cumulative 3.0 grade point average for the year.  Only 140 teams, from all six major athletic divisions in the U.S, qualified in 2012-13.  Those included all four-year schools (NCAA I, II,  III, NAIA) and two-year schools (NJCAA DI, DII) as well.

Head coach Andrew Belsky said of the award, "I am particularly proud that the team has qualified for a second straight year.  We set out at the beginning of the year with the goal of maintaining a high standard of performance on the course and in the classroom.  That the team has done both shows true dedication and reflects what being a member of the NCAA III is all about."

Webster finished second in the SLIAC Tournament and placed one member on the SLIAC First Team All-Conference and three on the SLIAC Second Team All-Conference.
