Meyer Headlines SLIAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team

Fontbonne University took home two of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's biggest individual awards for 2013 with forward Zach Meyer being named Player of the Year and Head Coach Brian Hoener earning Coach of the Year honors. In addition, Webster's BJ Dryer was named Newcomer of the Year and Iowa Wesleyan received the team Sportsmanship Award.

Zach Meyer, a senior forward from St. Louis, Mo., was named the 2013 SLIAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring during league games. Meyer tallied 12 goals in just nine conference games, recording 25 total points. He helped lead the Griffins tie for first-place in the regular season with an 8-1 conference record and finish the season with a 13-7-1 overall record. This marks the sixth time Fontbonne has had the SLIAC Player of the Year.

Fontbonne Head Coach Brian Hoener was named the 2013 Coach of the Year after guiding the Griffins to a 13-7-1 overall record and tying for first-place in the conference. This year Fontbonne advanced to the SLIAC Tournament for the seventh consecutive time under his leadership. This marks the fourth time in his 13years at Fontbonne he has earned the conference's top coaching honors; also winning in 2003, 2004 and 2008.

BJ Dryer, a freshman forward from St. Louis, Mo., picked up SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors after totaling three goals and an assist in nine games for Webster. The true freshman played in all 20 games, starting 17 including seven conference contests. Dryer added one game winning goal this season as he helped the Gorloks to a first-place tie in the conference standings.

Newcomer Iowa Wesleyan College also received the SLIAC Sportsmanship Award. The team Sportsmanship Award, created in 2005, is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals for sportsmanship.
