Webster's Wells and Stieb, Westminster's Seibolt Take Top Honors
Webster University's Mike Wells and Jacob Stieb and Westminster College's Dustin Seibolt took home top individual honors on the 2014 SLIAC Men's Soccer All-Conference team. Wells was named SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year while Stieb was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Dustin Seibolt was named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year and Webster University head coach Mike Siener was named SLIAC Coach of the Year.
Wells, a senior forward Florissant, Mo., finished conference play with three goals and nine assists. His nine assists were a conference high while all three of his conference goals were game-winners, tied for the most in the SLIAC. Wells is the sixth player in program history to be named SLIAC Player of the Year.
Stieb, a senior from Highland, Ill., led a Gorlok defense that allowed a conference low three goals during conference play. Stieb and the Gorloks also recorded seven shutouts in conference play this season going 8-0-1 in SLIAC play.
Seibolt, a freshman from Desoto, Kan., paced the Blue Jays this season with seven goals and one assist during conference play. He netted three game winning goals, which tied for the conference lead. Seibolt scored seven of his eight goals this season during conference action and finished the regular season with 17 points.
Mike Siener was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Gorloks to 10-9-2 overall record. In his second season Siener led the Gorloks to the SLIAC regular season title, going undefeated with an 8-0-1 conference mark. He joins former Gorlok head coach Marty Todt as the only coaches of the program to be named SLIAC Coach of the Year.
Iowa Wesleyan College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive season. The team Sportsmanship Award, created in 2005, is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship. The 2014 All-Sportsmanship Team includes Julian Valencia (Blackburn College), Andrew Maestre (Eureka College), Carl Alsbach (Fontbonne University), Spencer Pulliam (Greenville College), Kaleb Kongable (Iowa Wesleyan College), Andy Alvarez (MacMurray College), Justin Ball (Principia College), Austin Lanham (Spalding University), Taylor Overstreet (Webster University), and Muzi Shongwe (Westminster College).
