Record Seven Blue Jays Named First Team All-Conference

Record Seven Blue Jays Named First Team All-Conference

A total of seven players from Westminster College were named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference, breaking the conference record for number of players from one school named to the First Team. The record number surpasses the previous mark of six teammates which occurred in 2004 (Fontbonne), 2012 (Webster), and 2014 (Westminster). The Blue Jays also took home Player of the Year (Tripp Sheehan), Defensive Player of the Year (Raul Belman), and Coach of the Year (Andrew Bordelon) honors.

Sheehan, a junior from Columbia, Mo., guided the high powered Blue Jay attack from his midfield position. With Sheehan running the offense the Blue Jays scored a league high 75 goals this season. Sheehan led the SLIAC in total points with 38, including 32 during conference play. He finished with 12 goals and 14 assists while adding two game-winning goals. Sheehan becomes the first Westminster player to be named SLIAC Player of the Year.

Belman, a junior from Celaya, Mexico, has become a fixture in net for the Blue Jays and one of the large reasons they led the league in fewest goals allowed with 10. Belman played in over 1230 minutes this season, finishing with a league best 0.66 goals-against average. He recorded 45 saves and six shutouts this year with an 83-percent save percentage.

Also taking home top conference honors was Jonny Madrid from Greenville College as the Newcomer of the Year. Madrid, a freshman from Grayslake, Ill., led the youth movement this year for Greenville, helping them reach the SLIAC Tournament. Madrid netted 13 goals while adding six assists and finished tied for second in the league with 32 total points. Madrid becomes just the third player from Greenville to be named Newcomer of the Year, joining Matt Reed in 2007 and David Dunlap in 2008.

Westminster's Andrew Bordelon takes home the 2015 SLIAC Coach of the Year award. Bordelon, in just his third year as the Blue Jays head coach, guided hist team to an undefeated conference record this year at 9-0 and a 15-2 overall mark. Bordelon has taken the program to two consecutive SLIAC Tournament titles and are the #1 seed in this year's tournament. He is the first Westminster coach to win SLIAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year since Martin Clayes in 2011.

Greenville College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award for the third time in program history. The Panthers also received the award in 2006 and 2011. The team Sportsmanship Award, created in 2005, is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship. The 2015 All-Sportsmanship Team includes Nate Kinnison (Blackburn), Tim Johnson (Eureka), Devin Arand (Fontbonne), Justin Mulholland (Greenville), Mitch Schneider (Iowa Wesleyan), Miles Money (MacMurray), David McLeod-Warrick (Principia), Aaron Seneker (Spalding), Frank Verdu (Webster), and David Immanuel (Westminster).
