Blue Jays Ousted By DePauw

The Westminster men's soccer team was ousted by DePauw University in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening, 1-0. 

This was the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Westminster Blue Jays and the third consecutive. The team entered into the Tournament with a 17-2 record. They went a perfect 9-0 in conference and win the conference tournament to earn the automatic bid. 

The Blue Jays and the DePauw Tigers remained knotted at 0-0 after a long 45 minutes. The play remained even throughout the first half, and DePauw was up two shots on the Blue Jays, 6-4.

The Blue Jays and DePauw each took three shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but the Tigers headed the ball in the net after goalkeeper Raul Belman deflected a shot just seconds earlier. 

Junior Tripp Sheehan took a header shot-on-goal in the 88th minute, but the Tigers' keeper made the save to keep the Tigers up 1-0. Neither team was able to fire off another shot, ending the game with a 1-0 Blue Jay loss. 

The Blue Jays took eight shots in the 90 minutes of play. Two shots by Sheehan were on goal. 

Keeper Belman (14-3) was credited with the loss. He recorded five saves in his 90 minutes in goal. 

DePauw will advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, November 15. They will face Washington University at 5:00 pm.

The Blue Jays end their season with a 17-3 record and graduate three seniors: Daryl Doran, Kevin Knobbe and Kyle Collins.
