Wissman Takes Top Honors, Principia Strong Showing On All-Conference Team

Principia College's Jason Wissman headlined the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis All-Conference team and was joined by four teammates on the First Team. Principia head coach Casey Reynolds was named the 2014 Coach of the Year while Webster University's Juan Granizo was named Newcomer of the Year.

Wissman, a junior from Westlake, Ohio, picked up his second consecutive SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year award becoming just the third SLIAC student-athlete to accomplish that feat all-time and the first since Tony Stephenson of Westminster College in 2010 and 2011. Wissman, playing #1 singles for all 18 of his matches this season, went 10-8 overall including 4-0 in conference play.

Reynolds received SLIAC Coach of the Year honors after leading Principia to the 2014 SLIAC Championship. This marks the second time in his coaching career he has been named the SLIAC Coach of the Year, with the first coming in the 2012 season.

Granizo, a freshman from Quito, Ecuador, went 9-3 this year splitting time between #1 and #2 singles; earning SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors. Granizo was 3-1 in conference play.

Joining Wissman on the First Team were teammates Joey Sander, Nate Waters, Andrew Rohrer and Kenny Sydness. Sander, a sophomore from Camarillo, Calif., was named All-Conference at the #2 position after going 10-8 overall and 4-0 in the SLIAC. Waters, a junior from Menlo Park, Calif., picked up All-Conference honors at #3 singles after finishing 12-7 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Rohrer, a junior from Grayslake, Ill., was named All-Conference at #5 singles after finishing 3-1 in conference play and picking up five wins this year from the position while Sydness, a senior from Wellesley, Mass., was named All-Conference at #6 singles after going 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the SLIAC.

Westminster College's Kyle Collins rounded out the All-Conference First Team singles position. Collins, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., was the #4 singles All-Conference member after going 8-6 overall, including 6-2 at #4 singels this season. Collins was 3-0 in conference play at the fourth spot.

The First Team All-Conference doubles teams are from Principia the #1 team of Wissman and Sander and the #2 team of Waters and Sydness. Wissman and Sander combined to go 11-8 in doubles action including 3-1 in conference play while Waters and Sydness were 8-4 overall and undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Greenville's #3 team of Code Power and Demetrius Bush also earned First Team honors. Power, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., and Bush, a junior from Cahokia, Ill., teamed up to go 4-1 this season.

Principia College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship. The 2014 All-Sportsmanship Team includes Nathan Reichert (Fontbonne), Demetrius Bush (Greenville), Jason Wissman (Principia), Beau Kolba (Webster) and Kyle Collins (Westminster).
