2019 SLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament

For the second straight weekend the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will invade Dwight Davis Tennis Center for a tennis tournament. This weekend it is time for men's tennis to take center court. The tournament will be held Friday and Saturday with matches beginning at 11 a.m. on both days. There will be four matches played on Friday with the Championship match and 3rd place match held on Saturday.

#1 Principia PANTHERS

Overall: 12-7

SLIAC: 4-0

SLIAC Titles: 16

Principia is looking to win their 6th consecutive SLIAC title, a feat that would tie for the second most consecutive titles in conference history; trailing only their own conference mark of nine straight titles from 1991-99. Including the conference tournament Principia has won 17 straight matches against SLIAC opponents and went 4-0 in regular season play this year, sweeping all matches. Daniel Gomez has been a force this season, going 18-2 overall in singles play. Wyatt Dale is second on the team with 12 wins this season while Nat Kenworthy, Jules Kitchingman, and Greg Sovie have all reached double digit wins as well. The #1 doubles team of Dale and Sovie recorded 11 wins while the pairing of Kenworthy and Kitchingman added 13 wins.

#2 Greenville PANTHERS

Overall: 13-3

SLIAC: 3-1

SLIAC Titles: 0

The Greenville men's tennis team has had a spring to remember, going 13-2 overall. Greenville's success has come thanks to their depth with Austin Burkhart leading the way at #4 singles. Burkhart put together a 9-4 record in that position and totaled 11 wins overall this season. Tyler Blume continues that depth with 10 wins on the year. At the top of the lineup Greenville has Zach Plocher, who finished with nine wins, and Daniel Pieplow, who showed he can challenge in the top spot with six wins. The #2 doubles team of Blume and Justin Tilford have been dominant, winning nine of their ten matches this season. Overall, Greenville has gone an impressive 33-12 in doubles play this year.

#3 Webster GORLOKS

Overall: 12-6

SLIAC: 2-2

SLIAC Titles: 0

After dropping their first two matches of the season the Gorloks rolled off ten straight wins en route to going 11-6 overall this season. The 11 wins are the most by a Gorlok team since the 2013 team won a school record 19 matches. The top of the lineup has done much of the damage for Webster this season with all three top singles players reaching double digit wins. Riley Muren has notched 11 wins in the top slot while Austin Nation and Charlie McGhee have both recorded 10 wins. McGhee and Tom Shutzman have been the best doubles pairing for the Gorloks, going 4-4 this season.

#4 Fontbonne GRIFFINS

Overall: 1-10

SLIAC: 1-3

SLIAC Titles: 0

Fontbonne finished the regular season with a 1-8 overall record. A small roster of just six players has had to battle through the season but have recorded nearly as many wins (5) in doubles play as they have in singles action (6). The doubles team of Brandon Baumgartner and Hayden Thompson finished with a winning record, going 2-1) at the #3 spot. Sebastian Colton leads the team with three singles wins, all coming at the top spot in the lineup.

#5 Westminster BLUE JAYS

Overall: 0-8

SLIAC: 0-4

SLIAC Titles: 12

Westminster has had a tough season, going 0-8 this year. Joshua Udinyiwe leads the team with two victories in singles action this season, both coming at #3 singles. Brandon Rettke and Mike Rois also have notched singles wins this spring. The doubles team of the Udinyiwe brothers, Joshua and Phillip, are coming off a win their last time on the court as is the pairing of Bryce Loney and Mike Rois. Nick Lakowski and Giovanni Strickland lead the team with two double victories this season.
