SLIAC Athletes Head To Track and Field Nationals

This weekend is the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Nationals and will include several student-athletes from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference including a showdown in the 200 meter dash between pair of standout sprinters.

Greenville College's Bruce Gray and Spalding University's Eric Whipple are set to go against each other in a field of 20 for the 200-meter prelims. Gray holds the top qualifying time this season in Division III with a time of 21.04 while Whipple recorded the second fastest qualifying time with a time of 21.07, both more than a second faster than anyone else in the field.

Gray and Whipple will also compete in the 100-meter race where Gray holds the top qualifying time of 10.41 this season and Whipple recorded the sixth fastest with a mark of 10.53 seconds. Gray will also run in the 4x100 relay race along with teammates Josh Garcia, Jonah Peoples and Dmitri Holman.

Greenville College's Josh Kuusisto also advanced to nationals in the Hammer Throw with a season best throw of 58.90-meters, qualifying 10th in Division III.

Spalding University will also send one more student-athlete in Kyle Jenkins. Jenkins qualified in Discus with a distance of 50.62-meters, 12th best this season. He is making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Nationals.

Principia College's Conrad Bollinger is headed to nationals after qualifying fourth in the country in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.92-meters.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be held May 22-24 at Ohio Wesleyan's Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio. The championships will be streamed live, beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern time, Thursday, May 22, and beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, May 23. The final day of the championships will be streamed beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time. To access the live stream, visit NCAA.com

On the women's side Alex Gregory, from Greenville, will be competing in the 200-meter race after qualifying 11th with a time of 24.59 this season.
