Greenville Wins Fourth Straight SLIAC Invite

The Greenville College men's track and field program won their fourth consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Invitational. The invitational was held in conjunction with the Illinois College Open in Jacksonville, Ill. and scored independently of the main meet.

Greenville captured the 2014 title with 234 points, more than doubling the second place team, and won six events on the day. Spalding University finished second with 114 points and was followed by Iowa Wesleyan with 83 points, Webster with 48 points, Westminster with 43 points, Principia with 32 points, Fontbonne with 6 points and Eureka with 5 points.

It was Greenville's depth as a team that pushed them to the Invite win, finishing with 25 top three finishes in 20 different events. Greenville's Richard Wilburn picked up a win in the high jump with a height of 1.76 meters. Jonah Peoples notched a win in the 110 meter hurdles while Treyvon Manning picked up a win in the 400 meter hurdles. Panther Bruce Gray picked up a win in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.71 seconds but was edged out in the 200 meter dash by Spalding's Eric Whipple, who finished with a time of 21.53 seconds. The Panthers also picked up a win at 4x100 meter relay

In a showdown between two of the conference's top throwers, Josh Kuusisto picked up a win for Greenville in the hammer throw with a distance of 57.60 meters; besting Spalding's Kyle Jenkins. Jenkins would later pick up wins in the discus with a distance of 50.62 meters as well as a win in the shot put with a distance of 15.58 meters.

The meet was scored on a 10-8-6-4-2-1 basis, no school could score more than three competitors in any event and events were scored regardless of the number of SLIAC participants.
