Fontbonne Softball Headed To Illinois Wesleyan In Regionals of NCAA Tournament

The Fontbonne University softball team is headed to Illinois Wesleyan portion of the Regionals for the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. The Griffins, fresh off their fifth consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title, will be in the regionals with host Illinois Wesleyan, Lake Forest, and Anderson. Regionals will be held May 9-11 in a double elimination format.

Fontbonne, ranked #21 in the latest NFCA National Poll, is currently 34-5 overall this season. Illinois Wesleyan holds a 37-5 record and are ranked #12 while Lake Forest is 26-8 and Anderson is 29-7.

The championship will use a new format this year that includes a super regional round of competition. Four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites. The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 16 and 17. The finals, hosted by Texas-Tyler, will be held May 22-27 at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
