Softball Takes Time To Help 12U Team In Florida

The Webster University softball team had a long week, playing eight games in five days at the PFX Games in Clermont, Florida.  And like many teams that travel to sunny destinations on spring break, there were extracurriculars like eating out, catching some rays and, in the Gorloks' case...helping out with the Oviedo 12U girl's softball team.

The Gorloks took time out for an afternoon to share their expertise with the Oviedo 12U girl's softball team by running them through some fielding and throwing drills, playing some catch, and hoping to inspire them to work hard and take their game to a higher level.

Laura Zeegers, a junior who transferred to Webster from Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama, attended Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL.  Her family moved to Oviedo, which is in the Orlando area, last year.  Her father, Tommy Zeegers, helps coach the 12U team and asked if the Gorloks might not mind working out with his girls.  The Gorloks were more than happy to oblige.

"I think it was not only a great opportunity for these younger girls to see the work it takes, and the talent level to be a college softball player, but it was also a great opportunity for our players to give back a little.  Our (Webster) players really enjoyed working with the 12U team and it gave them satisfaction seeing how the younger girls appreciated the interaction," said Webster head coach Chris Eaton.

The Gorloks will finally play a home game at Blackburn Park on March 19 with a doubleheader vs. Robert Morris College (IL) at 5 and 7 p.m.
