The Principia College women's tennis team claimed the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, their second consecutive and 18th in program history.

The Principia women's team, who went undefeated in conference dual play this season and dropped just one singles match all year, were dominate once again this weekend blanking both opponents. The Panthers advanced to the championship match against Greenville College after a 5-0 win over Webster University.

Principia got off to a strong start when the #1 doubles team of Carlie Sanderude and Hanne Anderson fought their way past Greenville's Kristen Lynch and Lexi Baysinger for an 8-3 win. Principia picked up doubles wins at #2 and #3 by identical 8-1 scores to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the dual match, which was decided to be played until completion.

Carlie Sanderude made quick work of her singles match at the top spot, winning 6-0 and 6-0. Hanne Anderson won at #2 singles 6-1 and 6-1 while Kelly Adams won 6-0 and 6-0. AC McMullen continued Principia's run with a 6-0 and 6-2 win at #4 singles while Justine Roy won 7-5 and 6-0 at #5 singles. The shutout was completed when Lena Carlson won 6-2 and 6-2 at the #6 singles position.

In the third place match Westminster College outlasted Webster University for a 5-4 win. Westminster took two of three doubles matches but saw Webster even the score up at 4-4 late. Westminster secured the win when Ellen Woolsey defeated Erin Roop 6-2 and 7-5 at the #5 singles spot.

Following the match the SLIAC announced the winners of the 2014 Sportsmanship Awards. These awards are given to one player on each team that best represents the ideals of sportsmanship. Winners are from Blackburn College, Kate Alderman; from Fontbonne University, Celeste Herrmann; from Greenville College, Anna Brannon; from Principia College, Lena Carlson; from Webster University, Erin Roop; and from Westminster College, Amy Osborn.
