Fontbonne's DeWitt Named Academic All-District

The 2015-16 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball teams were announced today as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight districts that recognize the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III. In order to be selected to an Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing and is nominated by the school's Sports Information Director.

Fontbonne, representing NCAA Div. III District Five (AL, AR, FL, GA, MO, MS, NC, PR, SC, TN, VA) garnished the only St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball recipient. A Speech-Language Pathology major, senior setter Mandy DeWitt (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time.

The four-year Griffin has a 3.99 cumulative GPA and has already earned the athletic department's highest academic honor, garnering the Lee McKinney Scholar Award last season. DeWitt is the Vice President of NSSLHA and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus. She's earned the Griffin Award for 100% effort on and off the field, has been on the Dean's list every semester and has been nominated as a member of Alpha-Lambda Delta and Phi Kappa Phi. DeWitt is fourth all-time at Fontbonne in career sets, having totaled 2,071 and counting, and this year, she's helped send the Griffns back to the conference tournament for the first time in six years.

Capital One Academic All-District award winners will be considered for the Capital One Academic All-America teams, voted on by the Academic All-America committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.
