2019 Volleyball Players of the Week

Kamryn Flesner, MacMurray College

Flesner collects her 5th Player of the Week honor this season. The sophomore outside hitter totaled 46 kills in three matches, averaging 4.60 per set. She hit .219 on the week and added four aces and 36 digs. Flesner had a high of 18 kills in a win over Principia and led the Highlanders to a sweep of Westminster, picking up 17 kills, the program's first win over the Blue Jays since 2005.

 

Carissa Smith, MacMurray College

Smith, a junior defensive specialist, wins her second weekly award this season. She averaged 7.70 digs per set on the week, totaling 77 digs in three matches. Smith had a high of 35 digs against Greenville and topped 20 digs in all three matches. She set a new program record with 676 digs this season.

Kamryn Flesner, MacMurray College

Flesner notches her 4th weekly award this season, capturing this week's honor after recording 77 kills in four matches and setting a new MacMurray record. Flesner hit .368 on the week, averaging 5.13 kills per set. She had three straight matches of 20 or more kills, topping off with 27 against Illinois College. The next day, against Iowa Wesleyan, Flesner set a new Highlander single-season mark for kills and currently has 451 this season to lead the SLIAC. She also added 42 digs and 8 total blocks on the week, averaging 5.5 points per set.

 

Kristen Farrah, Webster University

Farrah, a junior from St. Charles, Mo., wins her 4th weekly award this season. The defensive specialist recorded 83 digs over three matches for the Gorloks last week, averaging 7.55 per set. She had a high of 37 digs against Greenville and moves to within 59 digs of setting the new school record for career assists. She also added 14 assists and two service aces while extending her double-digit dig streak to 59 matches.

Anna Finch, Greenville University

Finch, a junior middle blocker, led the Panther attack last week by averaging 3.44 kills over three conference match wins. She had a high of 12 kills against MacMurray, adding 4 blocks and followed with 10 more kills and 5 more blocks against Fontbonne. On the week Finch hit .482 with 31 kills, 5 digs, 4 aces, and 9 blocks. She totaled 39.5 points on the week, averaging 4.4 per set.

 

Amanda Swedberg, Blackburn College

Swedberg, a freshman fro Sycamore, Ill., helped the Beavers to a pair of conference wins last week with her stellar defensive outing. The defensive specialist averaged 6.0 digs per set in three matches, totaling 60 digs. She had a high of 24 digs against Westminster and posted back-to-back matches with at least 20 digs. Swedberg also added five service aces on the week.

Ashley Kistaitis, Westminster College

Kistaitis, a senior from Lincoln, Neb., pounded out 58 kills over three matches last week; averaging 5.3 per set. She had a high of 27 kills against Greenville, adding five aces and 10 digs in the match. For the week she hit .248 while adding 10 aces and 26 digs. She tallied 68.5 points in the three matches, averaging 6.2 per set.

   

Carissa Smith, MacMurray College

Smith, a junior defensive specialist, takes home her first weekly honor this year. Smith totaled 83 digs in four matches, averaging 5.53 per set. She had a high of 35 digs against Blackburn and added a 22 dig outing against Fontbonne. She is currently tied for first in the SLIAC in total digs.

Eryka Wanyonyi, Westminster College

Wanyonyi, a freshman from Columbia, Mo., picks up her first Player of the Week nod. The outside hitter was a key part of the Blue Jays pair of conference wins last week, averaging 5.13 kills per set. She had a high of 24 kills against Greenville and totaled 41 kills in the two matches combined. Wanyonyi hit .304 for the week and added 32 digs, averaging 4.0 per set, along with three service aces. She finished the week with 44.5 total points, averaging 5.6 per set.

 

Erica Schrader, Westminster

Schrader, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., picks up Defensive Player of the Week honors this week. The defensive specialist finished with 35 digs in two conference wins last week. She had a high of 21 digs against Greenville and averaged 4.38 digs per set on the week. Schrader also added five assists and two service aces.

Kamryn Flesner, MacMurray College

Flesner led the Highlanders last week with 50 kills over three matches. She had a high of 19 kills in her team's win over Webster, the program's first such win since 1996. Flesner also recorded a pair of double-doubles and averaged 3.85 kills and 2.54 digs per set while hitting .273 on the week. She added six total blocks and finished with 4.3 points per set.

   

Megan Schaller, Fontbonne University

Schaller was chosen as the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Griffins with 82 digs last week. She averaged 5.86 digs per set and totaled a career-high 36 digs against Blackburn. She also added six service aces in four matches on the week.

Lida Landre, Iowa Wesleyan University

Landre, a junior from Loomis, Calif., had an impressive weekend as the Tigers hosted a quad against a pair of SLIAC opponents. Landre, a middle hitter, finished with 37 kills in the two matches and totaled 40.0 points. She put down 17 kills with 2 aces in a win over Eureka and followed with 20 kills against MacMurray. Landre averaged 4.63 kills per set over the weekend, hitting an outstanding .500 while adding six digs and two blocks.

     

Kristen Farrah, Webster University

Farrah claims her second straight and third overall weekly award this season. The junior defensive specialist from St. Charles, Mo. totaled 80 digs in just three matches. She averaged 7.3 digs per set and has now recorded 20 or more digs in all 11 matches this season. She had a high of 38 digs in a four-set match against Rose-Hulman.

(Offensive) Kamryn Flesner, MacMurray College

Flesner grabs her second Player of the Week award after averaging 3.76 kills and 4.6 points per set over six matches for the Highlanders last week. Flesner reached double-digit kills in five of the six matches, hitting .232 on the week. Twice she reached at least 20 kills in a match with a high of 25 against Concordia-Chicago. Flesner added 70 digs on the week with a high of 21 against Anderson, averaging 2.80 per set on the week. She also recorded a school-record 8 aces against Knox.

 

(Defensive) Kristen Farrah, Webster University

Kristen Farrah secures her second weekly honor this season after averaging an outstanding 10.46 digs per set over four matches last week for the Gorloks. Farrah, a junior from St. Charles, Mo., recorded at least 23 digs in all four matches including a high of 55 in a four-set win over Wartburg. That mark is the highest in Division III this season and a school record for a four-set match.

  (Offensive) Abby Freeman, Greenville University
Abby Freeman picks up her first SLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week award this season. Freeman, a junior, averaged 5.73 kills per set while hitting .348 over three matches. She had a high of 29 kills on the week and totaled 63 kills overall. She also added 10 digs and four service aces last week while averaging 6.5 points per set.
  (Defensive) Jenna Murphy, Iowa Wesleyan University
Jenna Murphy, a junior from Pella, Iowa, is this week's SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Murphy helped the Tigers to three wins last week, leading the defense with 6.21 digs per set. Murphy reached double-digit digs in all five matches she played including a high of 40 digs against Knox. She also added 22 service aces on the week.

  (Offensive) Kamryn Flesner - MacMurray College
Flesner, a sophomore outside hitter, helped the Highlanders to a pair of wins in the 2019 opening weekend. Flesner, last year's SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, finished with double-digit kills in all four matches on the weekend; averaging 3.50 kills per set. She tallied a high of 14 kills in a win over Rockford, hitting .419 in the match. On the week she hit .240 and added six digs and five total blocks.
  (Defensive) Kristen Farrah - Webster University
Farrah wasted no time in getting into form, averaging 6.42 digs per set in the opening weekend of the 2019 season. The reigning SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year recorded 77 digs over three matches with a high of 30 against Hendrix. Farrah also added 10 assists on the week and reached at least 22 digs in all three matches for the Gorloks.
