Greenville Sets Pace in All-Sports Race

Greenville Sets Pace in All-Sports Race

For the second consecutive fall, Greenville University leads the race for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Sports trophy. The Panthers totaled 37 points this fall thanks to capturing a pair of championships and a league title. Both Panther cross country programs won the SLIAC Championship while the volleyball team went 14-0 in capturing its fifth consecutive regular season title. The Panthers also recorded a second-place finish during the regular season in men's soccer and a third-place showing in women's soccer. The 37 points are three points more than last year's fall total.

Sitting in second place is Fontbonne University with 34 points. The Griffins had a successful fall with a regular season title in women's soccer leading the way. Their volleyball team finished second in the regular season to pick up seven more points while the women's golf team recorded nine points with its 5th place showing at the SLIAC championship. Fourth-place finishes in both men's soccer and men's cross country helped the Griffins add on nearly 10 points from last fall's point total.

Webster University, which has won the last five SLIAC All-Sports Trophies, finished with 32.5 points this fall. The Gorlok athletic programs were led by the men's soccer team which won its third consecutive regular season title. Women's Soccer and men's cross country also picked up seven points apiece with their second-place finishes. Volleyball tied for 3rd with the women's cross country team finishing 4th at the championships.

Eureka College made the largest jump of any school in the conference from last fall with 26 total points this year. The jump was thanks to the continued growth of the cross-country programs. The women's cross country team had its highest ever finish at the SLIAC Championships, placing 2nd, while the men's team has been built up enough now to record team scores and finished 5th. The Red Devils also picked up points in women's golf, men's soccer, and volleyball; making them the only SLIAC school to participate and tally points in all six conference-sponsored sports during the fall.

Standing in fifth place with 24.5 points is Westminster College. The Blue Jays' top performance was in volleyball, tying for 3rd place. Women's Soccer finished in 4th while men's soccer was 5th. The Blue Jays also notched points in women's golf and men's cross country this fall.

Principia College collected 22 points this fall. They had a trio of third-place finishes to buoy their point totals; men's cross country, women's cross country, and men's soccer. They also picked up points in women's soccer and volleyball, increasing their point total from last fall by five.

Spalding University tallied 20 points with half of them coming from the women's golf team and its fourth-place finish at the SLIAC Championships. The Golden Eagles volleyball and women's soccer programs both finished in fifth place.

The next three schools on the fall standings are affiliate members, with their point totals stemming from the SLIAC Women's Golf Championship. Grinnell College collected 13 points with its championship and was followed by Illinois College with 12 points and Lake Forest College with 11 points.

Concluding the fall standings is Blackburn College with 11 points. Beaver athletics was led by the women's cross country team which recorded four points thanks to its 5th place showing. Its volleyball team added a 6th place finish with men's cross country, men's soccer, and women's soccer also picking up points.
