The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for February 20, 2023

     
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
 

Brent Wagner, Fontbonne University

A junior guard, Wagner helped the Griffins to a pair of wins last week by averaging 25.5 points per game on 73-percent shooting from the field. He knocked down 9-of-15 threes on the week and had a high of 30 points in a win over Greenville. Wagner added 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game on the week.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
  Shakaya Rogers, Eureka College

Rogers averaged 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals over two games last week, helping the Red Devils secure a postseason berth. She shot 75 percent from the field in the two games with her best outing coming against Principia when she finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
  Dylan Webster, Greenville University

Webster picked up a pair of 1st place finishes at the Hilltop Classic. He took first in the high jump with a mark of 6'5.5" and 1st in the triple jump with a mark of 43'3.25". His mark in the triple jump is a conference-best this season. 

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
  Elijah Perez, Webster University

Perez competed in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter race at the Indiana State Open. He finished 2nd in the 200-meters with a time of 22.54 seconds, the fastest time in the SLIAC this season. His time of 6.94 seconds in the 60 put him 4th overall and is the 3rd best in the SLIAC this year.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
  Isabelle Llewellyn, Webster University

Llewellyn had a pair of personal best throws including a program record in the weight throw. The sophomore finished with a mark of 45'9.75" in the weight throw, finishing 3rd at the Indiana State Open. She also set a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 33'8.5", placing 5th.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
  Rachel Fisher, Eureka College

Fisher picked up a pair of personal best times at the Hilltop Classic over the weekend. She finished her 400-meter race with a time of 1:04.42, the second fastest by a SLIAC runner this year. Her time of 2:28.72 in the 800-meter race is the fastest in the conference this season by nearly four-seconds.

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
  Matt Helm, Fontbonne University

Helm started the season by hitting .647 with four runs batted in over the first week of the season. He had hits in all five games including a four-hit performance in game two against Sewanee. Helm finished with a .667 on-base percentage thanks to three walks and scored three times on the week.

Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week
  Gavin Kinworthy, Fontbonne University

The sophomore hurler made two starts last week, finishing with a 3.72 earned-run average. He allowed four earned runs over 9 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 15. Kinworthy struck out seven in a no-decision against Health Sciences and Pharmacy and followed with eight more strikeouts six days later against Sewanee.

Softball Hitter of the Week
  Patience Vandermierden, Fontbonne University

A senior infielder, Vandermierden hit .600 on the week; going 6-for-10 from the plate in four games. She had hits in three of the games including two multi-hit games. Vandermierden finished with one walk, one double, and one triple on the week; recording a .900 slugging percentage. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
  Kami Matthews, Fontbonne University

Matthews went 1-1 in three appearances for the Griffins last week, finishing with a 0.88 earned-run average. She picked up her win over Centre, going 6 innings and striking out one while scattering six hits. On the week she allowed 7 hits in 8 innings, finishing with two strikeouts.

  • Cody Baer, Eureka College (Men's Basketball) Recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Spalding.
  • Taylor Brown, Principia College (Women's Basketball) Had 16 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Blackburn.
  • Wynne Brown Jr., Webster University (Men's Basketball) Scored 27 points in helping the Gorloks to a regular season Co-Championship.
  • Jacie Chesser, Spalding University (Women's Basketball) Finished with 27 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks against Greenville.
  • Anthony Dillard, Spalding University (Men's Basketball) Had 22 points and 15 rebounds against Eureka.
  • Kourtney White, Fontbonne University (Women's Basketball) Finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Westminster.
